Sport

Playing sport encourages mental and physical fitness and promotes working together in a team. Kambala has excellent facilities for sport including an indoor heated pool, tennis courts, a playing field and a well-equipped gymnasium. A broad range of sports is offered including: swimming, tennis, softball, athletics, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, touch, cross country, netball, squash, hockey, volleyball, skiing, cricket and water polo.

Girls are strongly encouraged to play competitive sport and teams successfully take part in competitions and carnivals, In addition the girls are taught life saving, self defense and a program of social sports is also available. Kambala participates in the Independent Girls’ Schools Sporting Association’s (IGSSA) competitions.

In addition to the above, girls are taught life saving, the Year 10 curriculum includes lessons in self-defence and Year 11 students have a program of social sports. Private lessons are available in tennis and gymnastics. Specialist coaches are employed to assist the physical education staff in the training of girls in all sports in both the Junior and Senior Schools.

In most years Kambala’s secondary representative teams in swimming, athletics, gymnastics and Tildesley Shield tennis are ranked in the top half of IGSSA. schools. Our size has the distinct advantage of giving many more girls the opportunity to represent the school at the highest level without lessening the winning chances of our participants.

In recent years talented Kambala athletes have been selected for IGSSA. teams in swimming, athletics, tennis, netball and hockey. Some of these girls have gone on to represent at a State and National level.
