Hampshire House

Kambala’s Early Learning Centre opened in May, 2006 as part of the Kambala school community. In April 2009, it moved into Hampshire House, its new purpose-built premises.

Hampshire House is named after Mrs Diana Hampshire in honour and recognition of her services to Kambala.

Mrs Hampshire has had a lifetime association with the school, beginning as a kindergarten student and going on to become Senior Prefect and Gurney House Captain in 1955. She was President of the Kambala Old Girls Union from 1962 to 1964 and again from 1986 to 1989.

In 1989 she was invited to join the School Council and became Vice President in 1990 and President in 1991. She was the first woman and first Old Girl to be elected as President, a position that she held until her retirement in 2001.

Our staff members at Hampshire House are part of a dynamic learning community committed to high quality care and education for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

Hampshire House has three main areas:

A nursery with provision for 8 babies (6 months — 2 years) to engage in hands-on play and learning experiences to develop important skills with constant supervision. There is a separate cot room for sleeping.

One toddler room upstairs where 20 toddlers (aged 2 — 3 years) can interact, learn and engage in both small and large groups with a focus on open-ended, child-directed learning.

Two groups of 21 Preschool children (3-5 years) who participate in learning experiences that foster and build upon each child’s skills, abilities, interests and knowledge.

Hampshire House has a kitchen where fresh meals are prepared daily for the children by a qualified chef and kitchen staff. Children sit and eat meals in the dining room at large tables. There is a focus on warm, happy conversations in a relaxed setting. A multi-purpose room is used for group activities such as music, dance and yoga. A laundry is fully equipped with washing and drying machines.

Outdoor play areas have shade and a sandpit and are well resourced with age-appropriate activities.
