Massie House Music, Dance and Drama

Music Education

The girls are encouraged to learn through 'active involvement' in music making and performing. The lessons introduce the musical concepts of pitch, dynamics, duration, tone colour and structure through a variety of activities.

Extra Curricular Music
Children with a particular interest in music are able to develop more specialised skills through extra-curricular lessons in piano, violin, recorder and guitar.

Drama Education
The girls' drama lessons encompass a variety of learning activities.
These include improvising and enacting real and imagined situations, story dramatisation, puppetry, role play, mime, Readers' Theatre and opportunities for performing in the classroom, at Assemblies and in the Massie House Production.

Dance Education
The Dance program is integrated with the music program and the girls have many opportunities to participate in dance as well as to be spectators. Girls are introduced to elements of dance, action dynamics, time, space, relationships and structure through a variety of activities.

Various performing artists visit Massie House twice a term. These visits provide the girls with opportunities to see professional musicians and theatrical groups. Each year Transition, Year 1 and Year 2 classes also attend a theatre performance. In addition, Year 2 classes are taken to see The Australian Ballet and The Sydney Symphony Orchestra perform at the Opera House.
