Kambala Infants’ School is known as Massie House named in honour of Mr Hugh Massie, the School’s architect and a long-serving member and later President of the School Council.
The aim during these early years of schooling is to provide a structured yet friendly and caring environment where all girls will be taught to read and write, be encouraged to develop their unique potential and, above all, develop a love of learning. Emphasis is placed on teaching children to value relationships with their peers and teachers, to learn to co-operate, to enjoy working as part of a team and to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of others.
There are specialist teachers for Music, Dance and Drama, Learning Support, Library and Information Skills, French and Physical Education. A diverse and comprehensive curriculum is centred on the six Key Learning Areas: English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society and Its Environment (includes Religious Education and French), Creative Arts (includes Visual Arts, Music Drama, Dance), Personal Development Health and Physical Education.
Gifted and talented students are given more complex and challenging curriculum experiences. Differentiated and individualised programs and groupings cater for students of varying ability. Computers are installed in the Library, Learning Support room and in all classrooms.
Girls are exposed to a wide range of challenging and exciting educational and social experiences. At the end of Year 2 they have established a firm foundation in the basic skills, have become more independent and have grown in self-confidence. They are then ready to embark on their Junior School education.
