Other Awards

Rural Assistance Bursary – For Boarding Students
This may be awarded to a girl entering any year level in Senior School from Years 7 to 11 as a boarder.  This bursary is based on a demonstrated financial needs basis and requires the provision of supporting financial documentation.  To apply, a written submission to the Principal must be made by the student detailing why they wish to be educated at Kambala and the contribution they can bring to the School.  Parents are requested to also write outlining financial details. Applicants are not required to sit for scholarship examinations to be eligible.

The Hawke Scholarship - For Daughters of Old Girls of Kambala
A half scholarship may be awarded to the daughter or grand daughter of an Old Girl of  Kambala.  Before the offer of this scholarship, the Principal will interview the applicant and the applicant’s parents or guardian. Applicants must sit either the Year 5, 7, 9 or 11 scholarship examinations.

Kambala Community Scholarship

All applicants sitting for Year 5, 7 or 9 scholarships and applicants for the Rural Assistance Bursary will also be included for consideration for the Kambala Community Scholarship.  This scholarship will be awarded to a girl willing to contribute to the whole life of the school.  Applicants will be assessed on academic achievement, participation in sport, extra-curricular activities as well as contributions to the broader life of the school.

Scholarships for Former Kambala Students

Nina Barden Scholarship
To be eligible, an applicant must be an Old Girl of Kambala - it is not essential that she be a financial member of the Union.  Applications will be received by the school from Old Girls who have just completed the second year of a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) course at either Charles Sturt-Mitchell University (Bathurst), the University of Technology (Sydney), University of New South Wales or Sydney University.

The final decision of the award of the scholarship will be made by the Principal of Kambala.  The Principal may require an interview with an applicant or applicants prior to the decision being made.  The scholarship is not required to be awarded every year.  The scholarship will take the form of a payment of approximately $3000 at the commencement of the student’s third year of this course and would probably, although not necessarily, be paid directly to the University as fees remission.

The applicant will need to establish clearly that they intend to pursue a career in journalism and will need to provide a transcript of academic results including the second year results. A letter to the Principal requesting consideration for the Nina Barden Scholarship, together with academic transcripts and a portfolio/resume should be received by the end of March each year.

Leadership Scholarship
The aims of this scholarship are to encourage the development of leadership skills amongst ex-students of Kambala in their years of professional development and/or study.  The recipient will take part in pre-planned study, work experience or humanitarian aid program (of their choice) outside Australia which will assist in the development of the awardee’s leadership skills and general professional development. The cost of travel up to a maximum equivalent of a return economy class around-the-world air ticket plus approximately $5000 towards living expenses will be met for this scholarship.

To be eligible, an applicant must have graduated from Kambala after completing the HSC (or its equivalent) and be at least 20 years of age but no more than 30 years of age on the closing date of applications.  A panel of three eminent people from the Australian community will review all applications and decide on a short-list for interview.

Application forms are available from the Alumni office and must be returned by the end of August each year.
